Payment Policy & Insurance Information
Understanding your payment options and how we support your healthcare costs
Important Change: Effective January 31, 2026
Sisu Coastal Wellness has transitioned to a direct-pay model. We no longer accept health insurance billing, but we're committed to making quality care accessible and affordable.
What This Means For You:
- No insurance claims to file on our end
- Simplified, transparent pricing
- Faster appointments without insurance verification delays
- We provide itemized receipts for you to submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement
- Your care is not compromised—we're focused on better outcomes
Why We Made This Change
By moving to a direct-pay model, we can focus more time and resources on patient care rather than insurance administration. This allows us to provide better treatment outcomes, longer appointment times when needed, and more personalized care plans. Insurance billing can delay treatment and complicate the patient experience. Our new model prioritizes your health and well-being.
Payment Methods We Accept
Cash & Card Payments
We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover) and cash payments. Payments can be made at the time of your appointment. This is the most straightforward way to manage your healthcare costs.
Motor Vehicle Accident (PIP) Claims
If you were injured in an auto accident, your Personal Injury Protection (PIP) insurance covers chiropractic care. We handle the documentation and claims submission directly so you don't have to worry about it.
Workers' Compensation
If your injury occurred at work, workers' compensation insurance covers treatment. We accept and process workers' comp claims directly. Bring your worker's comp authorization or claim information to your first appointment.
Health Insurance Reimbursement
While we don't bill insurance directly, we provide detailed itemized receipts (superbills) that you can submit to your health plan for potential reimbursement at the out-of-network rate.
Motor Vehicle Accident (PIP) Insurance
If you've been injured in a car accident, your auto insurance likely includes Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage, which covers medical treatment including chiropractic care.
Oregon PIP Coverage Details
- Minimum Coverage: Oregon requires a minimum of $15,000 in PIP coverage for auto accident injuries
- What It Covers: Medical treatment, chiropractic care, physical therapy, and rehabilitation services resulting from the accident
- No Out-of-Pocket Cost: Your accident-related treatment is covered by your insurance. You typically don't pay a deductible or copay
- Time Limit: PIP coverage applies for injuries sustained in the accident, generally within a specific timeframe
- Direct Billing: We submit bills directly to your PIP insurance, simplifying the process for you
How the PIP Process Works
- You have an auto accident and seek treatment at Sisu Coastal Wellness
- Provide your insurance information and accident details to our office
- We verify your PIP coverage and obtain authorization for treatment
- You receive treatment, and we bill your PIP insurance directly
- Your PIP coverage pays for your chiropractic care
- If there are any remaining balance questions, we work with you and your insurance to resolve them
Important Notes About PIP Insurance
It's important to note that you should report your accident to your insurance company promptly and document your injuries. If you've already received treatment elsewhere, you may still be able to transfer care to Sisu Coastal Wellness for continued PIP-covered treatment. Contact us or your insurance company to verify the details of your coverage.
Workers' Compensation Insurance
Work-related injuries are covered under your employer's workers' compensation insurance. We specialize in treating work injuries and handle the claims process for you.

Health Insurance Reimbursement & Superbills
Many patients can still receive reimbursement from their health insurance, even though we don't bill insurance directly. Here's how the superbill process works.
What Is a Superbill?
A superbill (also called an itemized receipt) is a detailed statement of the services you received and the costs. It includes all the information your insurance company needs to process a reimbursement claim, including:
- Your complete diagnosis and treatment codes
- Date and description of each service provided
- Cost of each service
- Provider's credentials and license information
- Your insurance plan member ID (you fill this in)
The Reimbursement Process
- You Receive Treatment: Receive chiropractic care at Sisu Coastal Wellness and pay directly
- We Provide a Superbill: We provide you with a detailed itemized receipt at each visit or upon request
- You Submit to Insurance: You submit the superbill to your health insurance company
- Insurance Processes: Your insurance evaluates the claim based on your plan's out-of-network benefits
- You May Receive Reimbursement: If your plan covers out-of-network services, you'll receive reimbursement directly
Important Information About Reimbursement
Reimbursement Amount Varies: The amount you're reimbursed depends on your specific health insurance plan. Out-of-network reimbursement rates are typically lower than in-network rates. Some plans reimburse 50-80% of services, while others may have different structures.
Contact Your Insurance First: Before beginning treatment, contact your insurance company to ask about out-of-network benefits and whether chiropractic services are covered. Ask specifically:
- Do you cover out-of-network chiropractic services?
- What is the reimbursement percentage?
- Are there visit limits per year?
- Do I need a referral?
How to Request a Superbill
Superbills are provided automatically at the end of each visit. If you need additional superbills or a summary of multiple visits, simply ask our front desk staff. We can also email or mail superbills upon request at no additional cost.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did you stop accepting health insurance?
We made this transition to prioritize patient care. Insurance billing requires significant administrative time that takes away from clinical time with patients. By moving to a direct-pay model, we can focus on providing better treatment outcomes, longer appointments when needed, and more personalized care. Our doctors now have more time to focus on your health rather than insurance paperwork.
Can I use my HSA or FSA to pay?
Yes! Your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) funds can typically be used for chiropractic care, as it's an eligible medical expense. Ask your payment processor if they accept HSA/FSA cards, or you can withdraw funds and pay us directly with cash or your personal credit card.
How much does a visit cost without insurance?
Visit costs vary depending on the services provided. We're happy to discuss pricing during your initial consultation. Call us at 503-739-2120 to ask about specific treatment costs or to schedule your appointment and discuss pricing with our team.

What if I have auto accident injuries?
Great news! If you were injured in a motor vehicle accident, your auto insurance likely covers chiropractic treatment through PIP (Personal Injury Protection). We handle the PIP claims process directly. Contact us to discuss your accident and we can verify your coverage.
What if I was injured at work?
Workers' compensation insurance covers work-related injuries. We accept and process workers' comp claims directly. Bring your claim information to your first appointment, or call us first so we can verify your coverage before your visit.
Will my insurance reimburse me if I pay out-of-pocket?
It depends on your insurance plan. Some plans offer out-of-network benefits that allow you to submit our superbills for reimbursement. Contact your insurance company before your visit to ask about out-of-network chiropractic coverage. We'll provide all necessary documentation to help you pursue reimbursement.
Can I submit a superbill myself?
Absolutely! We provide detailed superbills that include everything your insurance needs. You simply mail or submit the superbill electronically to your insurance company's out-of-network benefits department. Our office staff can help guide you through the process if you have questions.
Do you have a financial hardship program?
We understand that healthcare costs can be a concern. We encourage you to discuss your financial situation with our office. Please call us at 503-739-2120 to speak with our team about your circumstances and how we can help.
What if I'm from Washington state?
Washington state auto insurance requirements are similar to Oregon, with PIP coverage available. Washington also has workers' compensation coverage. We accept both PIP and workers' comp claims for patients from Washington. Our office staff can help verify your coverage details.
